EnglishAn EPS packaging mold for large home appliances turns expanded polystyrene into corner blocks, frames and full perimeter packs that protect televisions, washing machines and similar products through stacking, trucking and last-mile handling. Good appliance packaging molds are designed around three things: drop energy at the heaviest realistic drop angle, stacking load over a full pallet height, and assembly speed on the appliance line.
Despite the rise of molded pulp and air cushions, EPS remains the default for large appliances because it offers a rare combination:
Modern TV packaging protects a large, thin, fragile panel. The EPS parts are usually a top-and-bottom frame set plus corner blocks, designed so the panel is held rigidly and cannot flex. Key mold features include precise recesses for the panel edge, stand cut-outs, and vent slots placed so they do not mark the visible frame.
Washing machines are heavy, rigid and shipped with drums that can shift. EPS packs typically include a base with a drum cradle, top caps that locate over the machine's corners, and sometimes an upper frame that ties the pack together. Here the mold must deliver stacking strength and drum restraint rather than fine edge protection.
| Input | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Product weight and centre of gravity | Drives drop energy and which corner takes the load |
| Drop height and orientation standard | Defines required cushion thickness and rib design |
| Pallet and stacking height | Sets the compressive load the bottom pack must carry |
| Line assembly time budget | Number of pieces and their orientation on the line |
| Container or truck footprint | Pack size limits and nesting for return trips |
Typically 15–25 g/L, with heavier items such as washing machines at the higher end. The exact density is set by drop and stacking tests, not by a fixed rule.
Not usually. Each panel size and geometry needs its own pack. Shared mold frames with interchangeable inserts can reduce cost across a product family.
Yes. EPS is a single polymer (recycling code 6) and can be regranulated. Cleanliness and collection logistics matter more than the material itself.
Several weeks from approved pack design to first samples, depending on cavity size and the number of pieces. Drop and stacking tests add time before the pack is released for production.
